Rejuvenated, healthy-looking skin is a pretty simple idea, but the right procedure can add dramatic improvements to your appearance. One of the keys to maintaining vibrant, youthful skin is a procedure called microdermabrasion. The term “abrasion” refers to a process that removes the top layer of old, dead skin in order to reveal younger, healthier layers of skin. Microdermabrasion is a simply a gentler, subtler version of the process.
Microdermabrasion works through gently streaming an abrasive material onto the skin. The abrasive material is often made of tiny, exfoliating crystals. The crystals are streamed through a handheld wand as the wand is moved over the targeted area of the skin. Some patients have described the experience feeling similar to having a “cat licking” the skin.
The procedure takes about half an hour, and it is recommended that patients receive two in the first month and once per month for further maintenance. If you have more questions about microdermabrasion, feel free to consult with Dr. Fred Bressler.
