Ear Surgery – Otoplasty Procedures – Houston

Ear SurgeryAre you concerned about the prominent appearance of your ears? Ears that stick out can have a major impact on your overall impression. Abnormal development of the ears can cause aesthetic issues or issues with functionality. The size and shape of the ears can be malformed. Ears can be disfigured through injury or may be deformed by a congenital condition. For those who are dealing with conditions of the ear, there is ear surgery, also known as an otoplasty.

Ear surgery can correct many kinds of ear conditions. One of the most common, or at least most visible, conditions is macrotia, where the ears are too large. Ears with this condition are treated by surgically reducing the scapha and a section of the helical rim. Stitches are secured internally to ensure that the ear holds its new position and shape. The procedure takes about two hours total.

During recovery, there will be minor discomfort, and patients should avoid sleeping on their sides. If you would like to discuss the specifics of an otoplasty in further detail, contact Dr. Bressler for more information.
