Balloon Sinuplasty™

Drs. Fred Bressler and Etai Funk are proud to announce that they are now trained and capable of performing Balloon Sinuplasty™, the new and revolutionary technology to surgically treat sinuses in a minimally invasive fashion.

Balloon Sinuplasty™ is an endoscopic, catheter-based system for patients suffering from sinusitis. The FDA-cleared technology uses a small, flexible, sinus balloon catheter to open up blocked sinus passageways, restoring normal sinus drainage. When the sinus balloon is inflated, it gently restructures and widens the walls of the passageway while maintaining the integrity of the sinus lining.

The benefits of Balloon Sinuplasty™ technology over traditional endoscopic sinus surgery for treating chronic sinusitis symptoms include:

Minimally Invasive
The technology uses small, soft, flexible devices that enter entirely through the nostrils. These devices gently open blocked sinus openings, and in many cases, without tissue or bone removal.
Reduced Bleeding
Because, in many instances, no tissue or bone is removed when using this technology, there may be reduced bleeding associated with the procedure.
Improved Recovery Time
While recovery time varies with each patient, many people can return to normal activities within 24 hours. There are fewer postoperative visits needed for sinus debriding and cleaning in the office for this type of procedure.

Drs. Bressler and Funk are frequently using this tool to treat patients waiting to undergo dental implantation. These patients may require a “sinus lift” by their oral surgeon or periodontist in order to prepare the upper jaw for implantation. In order to avoid infection after the sinus lift, the natural outflow tract of the sinus needs to be widely patent and draining into the nose. Balloon Sinuplasty™ allows for minimally invasive sinus surgery with a quick recovery and faster healing. This decreases the time interval between the sinus surgery and the dental implantation.
